Thinking about the leaders that I’ve worked with or whom I’ve coached in some occasions in the past, and especially whom I admire, adore, feel deep respect and admiration for and trust most, I could see these common qualities at the foundation of their belief systems. To be sincere, I have been following the foot-steps of these leaders and they’ve contributed a lot to who I am today. So my sincere “Thank you” to everyone of them.
1. They have empathy and thinking that employees are people: Both normal relationships and professional relationships are characterized by extreme care and great effort. People around, and all employees in a working place thrive in environments of mutual respect and appreciation. Successful leaders ensure their people feel they are Worth their time and interest. Getting closer to know their employees personally and professionally, praising them for the job well done and guiding their employees to the unknown journey to achieve their goals. All these attitudes will create trust, loyalty and honesty in the environment which is perfect for any entrepreneur to succeed in their businesses.
2. Seeking support: ‘’Having contact with mentors who are directly related to the type of business that you’re setting up is really a key and really helpful,’’ said one successful entrepreneur. Mentors and networks could be important source of reassurance for any entrepreneur struggling hard to overcome fear and failure in their businesses and decision making. Mentors and social supports are rewarding because they support the three strategies of learning, problem-solving and self-awareness. In my own career, ‘’(Fear of failure) encourages me to learn more, talk to more people in order to figure out why I was wrong in the first place.’’ One of these successful leaders whom I have always looked up to in life always say ‘’Fear of failure always gives you the power to come up with...better ideas and look for people who are going to give you constructive supports and solutions along the process.” Social forms of learning, from those who have already ‘’been in this kind of situation, and succeeded, because of their courage and enthusiasm,’’ that seem to be specially powerful antidote to the experience of negative thoughts and feelings among entrepreneurs. So, we know that fear is a natural state for all entrepreneurs, but the ability to anticipate manage it, is really a skill of wisdom.
3. Scrupulous Integrity: Those successful leaders I know and most close to, have a high degree of scrupulous professional integrity which guides them in all their undertakings – decisions and actions. They possess that spirit of trustworthiness, honesty and Strong morals in any comfortable and uncomfortable situation alike. They always struggle hard for solutions and success, they can face all types of situations and accept failure in a graceful manner and view what they and their teams will be able to learn from theretofore.
4. Practice self-compassion during any serious situation: These successful leaders have compassion for themselves as this will help them increase their focus to get through difficult situations with greater ease and Peace.
5. Paying excellent attention to all the trends happening inside the company: Normally when we think about trends that affect business, most leaders always pay attention to things happening outside their companies but the successful leaders whom I know alway pay more attention to internal signals that may present opportunities or challenges right in front of them inside their companies. They watch for signs that have to do with people, products, process and strategy: Have there been any new hires or departure of excellent talents in the company? How might the introduction of a new product affect their line of business? Are there patterns in the types of requests they’re receiving from the headquarters/shareholders? After reflecting on these questions, then they consider the implications of these trends and thereafter ask themselves, What might all these changes mean to them, their departments and the company as a whole? And they theretofore respond to their questions with excellent capabilities that will make them identify where their strategies and priorities would be well suitable.
6. Trustworthiness and Value: Those successful leaders are aware that when employees feel trusted, and valued, they will always be thriving in all their undertakings for the company. This is the reason why these leaders operate with these three beliefs about their employees: Firstly, they make sure that their employees are hired for their skills and valuable knowledge. Secondly, they develop trust among their employees and feel confident to ask them for advice, strategy, and feedback. And thirdly, these leaders sincerely invest in the professional growth of their employees through training and delegation of responsibilities and get out of the way to give the opportunity to their employees to do their utmost best and get the right job done. Period!
